turn 的多種字義用法

▸ 轉身

Jack spoke to Judy. She tured around to face him.
傑克對朱蒂說話。她轉身面向他。 

▸ 翻動（書頁）

Turn to the next page. It has a nice picture on it.
翻到下一頁，上面有好看的照片。

▸ 變成；成為

turn + 受詞 + adj.

I washed one red shirt with my white ones and it turned them all pink!
我將一件紅色襯衫根白色襯衫一起洗，結果紅襯衫把白襯衫都變成粉紅色了！

S + turn +adj.

After a few days, the green fruit turned red.
幾天過後，這個綠色的水果變紅了。

① turn on

★ 打開；啟動（電器）

The weather today is significantly hotter than yesterday. Let's turn on the air conditioner.
今天的天氣明顯比昨天熱得多。讓我們打開冷氣吧。

★ 攻擊；批評

When Helen landed her dream job, all of her friends turned on her out of jealousy.
當Helen 終於得到她夢寐以求的工作，她所有的朋友都因為嫉妒而批評她。
 

② turn off

★ 關掉（電器）

Judy forgot to turn off the oven in her haste.
茱蒂匆忙中忘記關掉烤箱。

★ 使某人失去興趣

Mitch was interested in buying the house, but was turned off because the owner didn't look after it well. 
米契本來有興趣買下這間房子，但屋主對房子的疏於照顧使他失去興趣。
 

③ turn in

★ 提交

Please make sure that you turn in your project by next Friday at the latest.
請確認最晚下週五前要交出你的專案報告。

★ 上床睡覺

I'm feeling really tired, so I think I'll turn in for the night. See you in the morning! 
我真的好疲憊，今晚我就先就寢了，明天一早見！

 

④ turn out 結果是...（尤指出乎意料的結果）

例句：

I cooked chicken for my friend, but it turns out he can't eat meat. 
我為朋友煮了雞肉料理，結果他居然不能吃肉類。
 

⑤ turn down 拒絕

例句：

Eileen turned down my invitation to go out for lunch; she's too busy with her studies.
Eileen 拒絕了我去吃午餐的邀請。她學校太忙了。
 

⑥ take turns 輪流；依次

例句：

My brother and I take turns doing the dishes every night. Today it’s his turn!

⑦ turn into 變成

例句：

Solar panels make it possible to turn sunlight into energy.

例句：
