一次搞懂「until」和「not until」的差異
今天要來聊聊許多人容易搞混的「until」用法！
廢話不多說，直接上時間軸圖解給大家~
▍ until 直到...（為止）
可當連接詞引導子句，或是當介系詞連接某一時間，表示某動作持續到其引導的時間為止。
例句：
We walked and walked until we reached our house in the mountains.
我們一直走一直走，直到抵達我們山上的家為止。
I slept until 10 a.m. yesterday.
我昨天睡到早上10點。
Please wait in this room until the doctor calls your name.
在醫生叫你的名字前請在這間房間等待。
Jamie will only work at this shop until tomorrow.
潔米只會在這間店工作到明天。
Dan waited at the restaurant until 6 p.m. , but Julia never arrived.
丹在餐廳等到晚上6點，但是朱麗雅都沒有出現。
▍ not...until... （原本沒有）直到...才...
示某一動作直到 until 所表示的時間才開始。
例句：
I can't get money from my bank until it opens on Monday.
我得等到禮拜一銀行開門後才能領錢。
Bryan didn't know that he had cancer until he went to get a health check.
直到做了健康檢查，布萊恩才知道自己得了癌症。
You can't have any ice cream until you finish your vegetables.
在你吃完蔬菜前不能吃冰淇淋。
I can't leave the office until I finish all my work.
在我完成我所有的工作前，我不能離開辦公室。
I couldn't fall asleep until 2 a.m.
一直到凌晨兩點我才睡得著覺。
Because it was dark, I didn't know the man sitting opposite me was my friend until about five minutes had passed.
因為很暗，我一直到過了五分鐘左右才知道坐在對面的男子是我朋友。
也可以搭配「分裂句句型：it beV +not until...+ that + S + V」來強調語氣，以下範例：
Home computers didn't become affordable for the average person until the early 1990s.
= It was not until the early 1990s that Home computers became affordable for the average person.
直到1990年代初期，一般民眾才買的起家用電腦。
