1️⃣ Instead（副詞）：取而代之的是；反而

它可以放在句首、句中或是句尾。通常前面會先有一個「沒有發生」或「被否定」的句子，接著再用 instead 帶出「實際上做了什麼」。

Lucas didn’t cook dinner last night. Instead, he ordered a pizza.

= Lucas didn’t cook dinner last night; instead, he ordered a pizza.

= Lucas didn’t cook dinner last night. He ordered a pizza instead.

（盧卡斯昨晚沒做晚飯，反而他叫了披薩。）

2️⃣ Instead of（介系詞片語）：而不是…；並非…

因為 of 是介系詞，所以它後面只能接「名詞 (N)」或「動名詞 (V-ing)」！它可以放在句首，也可以放在句中。

I would like to have a cup of tea instead of coffee.

（我想喝一杯茶，而不是咖啡。）

Instead of going to the beach, we stayed home because of the heavy rain.

（與其去海邊，我們選擇待在家，因為雨下得太大了。）
